Gary Trent Jr. was born on January 18, 1999, in Columbus, Ohio. The 25-year-old plays as a shooting guard/small forward for the Milwaukee Bucks as of December 2024. Trent Jr. was drafted 37th overall in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings but was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers after two weeks. He played in Portland for three seasons and was acquired in a trade by the Raptors in 2021.

As of March 2024, Trent Jr. is ranked 11th out of 20 players in the NBA for players who are taking more than five 3-point field goal attempts per game and converting more than 40%.

As a five-star recruit coming out of high school, the catch-and-shoot specialist played basketball for Duke University. He was accompanied by several five-star recruits committing to Duke which earned them the Pre-season rank 1 for the 2017-18 NCAA season.

In college, Gary Trent Jr. was a lights-out shooter from behind the arc, he tied J.J Reddick’s record for the most 3-pointers made as a freshman, at 97. He started all the games and was only one of three players to do so in the 2017-18 season. Trent Jr. averaged 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists with 1.2 steals per match on 40.2% from beyond the arc. He was the second-best shooter on the team from behind the arc and was the third-highest point scorer on the team.

After just one season in college, Trent Jr. declared for the 2018 NBA Draft.
