Gary Trent Jr. is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA, as of 2024. Trent Jr. started his basketball journey at Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota, where he averaged 26.4 points per game as a junior and won the Gatorade Minnesota Player of the Year. For his senior season, Trent Jr. decided to transfer to the Prolific Prep Academy in Napa, California. Trent Jr. finished his senior season averaging 31.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. He did all this while leading his school to a 29-3 record. Following his senior season, he was selected to play in both the Jordan Brand Classic and the 2017 McDonald’s All-American Boys game. As a consensus five-star recruit coming out of high school and the number one shooting guard of the 2017 high school class, Trent Jr. committed to Duke University. In his freshman season at Duke, Trent Jr. won the Atlantic Conference Co-Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

The Sacramento Kings selected Trent Jr. 37th overall in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft. However, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on draft night. In his rookie season, Trent Jr. played 15 games and averaged 2.7 points per game., as per Basketball Reference. During his second and third seasons, Trent Jr.’s numbers significantly improved as he went from averaging 8.9 points per game in his second year to 15.3 points per game in the third. After three seasons with the Raptors, Trent Jr. was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in July 2024 for the 2024-25 season.
