The Los Angeles Lakers’ season finale against the Denver Nuggets on April 10, 2022, was a defining moment for Austin Reaves. He scored his first triple-double and set new personal records in points, rebounds and assists with 31 points, 16 rebounds, and ten assists in 42 minutes.

Austin Reaves made his mark on March 19, 2023, when he delivered an outstanding performance off the bench for the Lakers. He scored a career-high 35 points, hauled in six rebounds, and dashed out six assists in a 111-105 win over the Orlando Magic, capping off the game with a 10-point scoring spree to seal the victory.

In the same month, Chinese sports apparel brand Rigorer partnered with Austin Reaves to create a signature shoe line. The first shoe in the collection, the “AR1”, is set to hit the stores in May 2023.

Making his postseason debut on April 16, 2023, he showed no signs of jitters, pouring in 23 points to fuel the Lakers’ dominant 128-112 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1 of their First Round series. Till now, Austin has appeared in a total of 61 games.

Prior to the beginning of his professional NBA career, Austin competed in numerous games during his time in high school and college. During his senior year of high school, he dominated the court with an average of 32.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, leading his team to win the Class 3A state championship. He received All-State honours in the Class 3A category twice.

On January 20, 2016, Austin joined the Wichita State Shockers men’s basketball team to play college basketball. He averaged 4.1 points per game during his freshman season. On January 28, 2018, Austin had a standout game against Tulsa, racking up 23 points and four assists to help secure his team a 90-71 victory. His sophomore season saw him contribute 8.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. After his sophomore season, Austin moved to Oklahoma and had to sit out the next season as per the transfer guidelines set by the NCAA.

On March 7, 2020, Austin debuted for the Oklahoma Sooners men’s basketball team, scoring a career-high 41 points and five rebounds in a 78-76 win over the TCU Horned Frogs men’s basketball team. As a junior, he was selected to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. In December, Austin recorded his senior season-high 32 points, six rebounds and nine assists in a win over the TCU. As a senior, he maintained an impressive average of 18.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, leading him to receive the esteemed First Team All-Big 12 honours. On March 31, Austin announced his decision to enter the 2021 NBA draft, ending his college eligibility.
