Malik Monk was born on February 4, 1998, and before the NBA, he was a five-star rated recruit, playing at Bentonville High School in Bentonville, Arkansas. Due to his amazing athleticism and shooting prowess, Monk was a highly sought recruit as he joined the University of Kentucky for the 2015/2016 season. Monk won the SEC Player and Freshman of the Year trophy in his one-and-done season with the Wildcats. Monk was eventually drafted with the 11th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. Since 2017, Monk has played for the Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Sacramento Kings as of 2024. Malik Monk's impact on the Kings franchise has been rather crucial as he was instrumental in leading the team to the playoffs in 2023 after 17 years, breaking the longest playoff drought in NBA history. In his playoff debut, Malik Monk made history by tying a long-standing NBA record set by Ed Mccauley in 1957 for the most consecutive free throws made without a miss, as he went 14-for-14 from the line. In the 2024 off-season, Malik Monk signed a four-year contract worth $77.97 million with the Sacramento Kings. He will earn a salary of $17.41 million for the 2024-25 season.

Malik Monk’s older brother Marcus Monk was born on April 26, 1986. He attended East Poinsett County High School, where he was an excellent multi-sports athlete as he was an All-State honoree in both football and basketball. He was named Mr. Basketball of Arkansas in 2004.

Monk later attended the University of Arkansas, where he was again a dual-sport athlete, playing both football and basketball. On the football field, he was terrific as a wide receiver. During his freshman year in 2004, Marcus Monk led all SEC freshmen in receptions and set a school record for catches by a freshman. In another tremendous season, Marcus caught 50 passes for a career-high 962 yards and 11 touchdowns in junior year in 2006 where he helped Arkansas win the SEC West Division championship. Moreover, Marcus Monk also played basketball for the Arizona Razorbacks, appearing in 10 games as a freshman after completing the football season. However, his basketball career was cut short due to NCAA eligibility issues.

After college, Marcus Monk was selected in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. In 2008, Marcus Monk also spent time with the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers but his NFL career did not pan out as he would have wanted. Once his NFL career concluded, Marcus Monk decided to play professional basketball in Europe, as he signed with Hertener Löwen in Germany's ProB league. During his time in Germany, Marcus enjoyed success, as he averaged over 22 points per game and was named into Eurobasket.com’s All-Pro B First-team and Defensive Player of the Year in the 2010-11 season.

After concluding his professional sports career, Marcus Monk pursued further education and received an MBA from the University of Arkansas in 2014.
