Malik Monk’s older brother Marcus Monk was born on April 26, 1986. He attended East Poinsett County High School, where he was an excellent multi-sports athlete as he was an All-State honoree in both football and basketball. He was named Mr. Basketball of Arkansas in 2004.
Monk later attended the University of Arkansas, where he was again a dual-sport athlete, playing both football and basketball. On the football field, he was terrific as a wide receiver. During his freshman year in 2004, Marcus Monk led all SEC freshmen in receptions and set a school record for catches by a freshman. In another tremendous season, Marcus caught 50 passes for a career-high 962 yards and 11 touchdowns in junior year in 2006 where he helped Arkansas win the SEC West Division championship.
