Matthew Dellavedova is a professional basketball player born in Australia, currently playing for the Melbourne United of the National Basketball League (NBL). As a youngster, Dellavedova played many sports, including soccer, basketball, tennis, and rugby. Dellavedova had a promising career in soccer too, scoring 32 goals in 26 games between 1999 and 2001. But he gave his soccer career up to focus solely on basketball. Dellavedova played junior basketball for the Maryborough Blazers and the Bendigo Braves. He then transferred to the Lake Ginnindera Secondary College.

Between 2007 and 2009, Dellavedova played for the Australian Institute of Sport in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL). He had two stellar seasons there averaging 13 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.25 assists in his two seasons there. After this, he was recruited by the Gaels and signed with them for the 2009-10 season. He played exceptional basketball there and led his team to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament. He continued to play 3 more seasons there before declaring for the NBA draft in 2013.

He is most known so making it hard on Steph Curry in the 2015 NBA finals and is also known for his tenacious off-ball hounding and incredible defensive skills. He won an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016, an incredible achievement for the Australian native. Since then, he’s played for the Bucks and Kings where his defense and leadership have proved vital. Currently, he’s playing for Melbourne United in Australia.
