Derik Queen is a center for the Maryland Terrapins and plays as a freshman in the 2024-2025 season. Derik hails from Baltimore, Maryland, and attended Montverde Academy. He scored several double-doubles, including a 20-point, 20-rebound game in his debut against Manhattan, making him the first Maryland player to achieve this feat since 1995. Queen earned the Big Ten Freshman of the Week multiple times, with notable performances against Illinois, Purdue, and Marquette. Queen registered 27 points against Minnesota, which was the highest in his collegiate career. He recorded seven points as well as 11 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal in an away game against Indiana. He was remarkable against Northwestern, making 14 rebounds, which was his sixth game in double digits. Queen also added nine points, one assist, and one block in the same game. He concluded with 25 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals against Illinois. As of March 2025, Queen averaged 16.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 35 games (via ESPN).

Derik Queen had a remarkable career at Montverde Academy in Florida. Queen was a consensus five-star recruit who also made an appearance in the McDonald's All-American game. During the 2023-24 season, Queen led Montverde to an undefeated 33-0 record with an average of 16.4 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. Queen was named in the MaxPreps Second Team All-American after helping Montverde to the Chipotle National Championship. Before he transferred to Montverde, he played his freshman year at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, where he was named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year. He also earned an honorable mention as a junior in the MaxPreps Junior All-American team. Queen also played AAU for Team Thrill, leading the team to the 2023 Under Armour Association U-17 spring championship.
