He had a decorated high school career as 247Sports labeled him a four-star recruit, and the Rivals gave him a five-star rating. He was nationally ranked the fourth wide receiver in his class and 36th overall recruit by 247Sports. His most notable record is being a Gatorade Player of the Year finalist in 2021. McMillan decided to commence his collegiate career with the Arizona Wildcats and immediately became a valuable asset to the team's offense. Tetairoa McMillan’s collegiate career is noteworthy in terms of his achievements, he won the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, AP National Player of the Week, and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week in the first week of the 2024 season. As a sophomore in 2023, he had the opportunity to showcase his skills in all 13 games, where he received 1,402 yards and earned 10 touchdowns. For his efforts in 2023, he earned a valuable selection in the Sporting News Second-Team All-American and later in the AP Third-Team All-American. He became Arizona's eighth player in history to break the 2,000 career receiving yards barrier. Following his junior season, McMillan entered the 2025 NFL Draft, foregoing his final year of eligibility (via ESPN).
