The Mid-Season report: TAL Season 3 (Div 1)

Chiranjeevi’s hot goal scoring form has fired Parikrma to the top of the league standings and extended their unbeaten run

Unbeaten…

Parikrma have made the switch between divisions effortlessly and are still unbeaten after seven games meaning they lead the Division 1 table going into the break. Chiranjeevi M is having a breakout season with the forward scoring 10 times in 7 outings. Nikhil Gopal has undoubtedly become one of the best players in the league and the young stalwart defender is as consistent as they come.

Kings of Past…

Horizons FC are still in the title race and are only 3 points off the leaders. With their game against Parikrma yet to come, they stand a chance to make up the points with only 4 games to go. The team has lost some important players over the course of the season but has found suitable replacements that include former Supernova forward Philip Babalola who scored 12 goals last season.

Eruption subdued…

Supernova FC looked on course for a title push after they beat Horizons only to falter in their next game against an out of luck Gremio side. Mica Levy and Nitin Baros have connected well up front while Adrian Silvester has been a rock at the back. They have made some much-needed additions to their squad in the winter transfer market including a so-called trump card but adding a goalkeeper is a must if they are to see out the season strongly.

The in-betweeners…

Yataghan Internazionale have taken up their performances by a notch this season and currently sit in 4th place but a top-three finish might be just out of their reach. Their new coaching methodology from the sidelines has ensured their team plays together and have put in some strong performances.

Project 7 have been the surprise package of the season and currently sit in fifth, but with a couple of tough games still to come they might find it hard to hold on to that position. Aditya Singh and Sandeep Kudva have formed a neat little partnership in midfield. Nischal Naidu has been excellent in defence while Prithvi Sagar has caused all sorts of problems on the wing.

Flipkart FC have recently found form to jump to the middle of the table but dropped points in the final week before the break against a resurgent Mercurial side. They have not built on their showing last season when they won the emerging team of the season award but are still good for a mid-table finish. Pavan Powar is arguably one of the best forwards in the league and has scored 6 goals in 7 games.

And survival mode kicks in…

The relegation battle heats up with only four games to go and 6 teams looking to avoid the three dreaded drop spots. This season’s three relegation spots compared to last season’s 2 means the end to the season might just throw up some surprise results and storylines.

Rare Dare FC have picked up back-to-back wins to move out of the relegation spots but need more consistent performances if they are to stay afloat. Avinash HF and Steven Harole have been excellent additions and bring much-needed poise to the squad.

Gremio FC have been a ghostly resemblance to the teams they have put out in previous seasons and find themselves in an unlikely relegation battle. The lack of goals can be attributed to the absence of Vignesh D and Mani Maran Jr but the imminent return of Vignesh for the second half of the season should help in that aspect while Javi Cabrera brings stability to the midfield.

Samba FC started off the season with a couple of draws and still possess one of the meanest defences in the league. But having failed to score on the other end, they now find themselves in 9th place. They will be looking to add a striker to their squad in a bid to pick up a couple of wins and stave off relegation.

FC Kougen Kikou have not been able to find their best eleven consistently enough to eke out results this season. The return of Yasuhiro Nishino has boosted their midfield but if they are to rise out of the dreaded red zone, they need to field Hirose Ito, Hiroki Akiyama, Daichi Takishi and Nishino in the same eleven for the rest of the season.

Mavericks FC have faltered after a decent start to the season mostly owing to the fact that there seems to be no semblance of passing in their game. Vikas Halali and Joshua Irkapob need to feature more in the starting eleven if they are to have any chances of picking up wins in the last four games.

Mercurial FC once again find themselves in the heat of the relegation battle, but they have escaped the clutches once when they miraculously rose from the bottom of the table in the second half of last season. Captain Solomon Alva has been a rock at the back and Haider Aly-Reza seems to have finally settled in to the squad having scored in both their previous outings.
