TAL Season 3 (Division 1): Gameweek 5 Review

Yataghan Internazionale edged out Rare Dare FC in a 9 goal thriller!

The top half of the table remained unchanged as Parikrma and Horizons continued to lead the pack with the season heading into the first festive break. Supernova got back to winning ways with a resounding victory over Mercurial while Project 7 got the better of Mavericks FC.

Samba FC edged Flipkart FC by a solitary goal in a tight encounter. The game of the day though, saw Yataghan Internazionale clinch a 9-goal thriller with last minute drama needed to see off a fighting Rare Dare side.

Mavericks FC 0-3 Project 7

Project 7 continued their sparkling form this season, beating Mavericks FC comfortably in the first game of the day. Project 7 were the superior team throughout the game and this was also helped by the fact that some of the key players for the Mavericks side did not have a great day at the office.

Vishal Sagar justified his inclusion in the starting eleven by grabbing two goals with substitute Aleem Muneer the other goal scorer. Project 7 head into the festive break in 4th position, a tremendous achievement. For Mavericks though, it will be back to the drawing board with them languishing in 9th position, just above the relegation spots.

Scorers: Vishal Sagar 27', 58'; Aleem Muneer 39' (Project 7)

Mercurial FC 1-6 Supernova FC

Supernova FC finally put in a performance reminiscent of their marauding form last season in Division 2, thrashing Mercurial 6-1. Mercurial would have expected to put on a better show after their display against Horizons last week, but that looked like a distant past at best, as Supernova went on a rampage.

Mica Levy with his man of the match performance was one of the standout players for Supernova as he lead from the front. Debutants Floyd Fernandes and Abhijeet ‘Bobby’ Singh gave a good account of themselves too.

For Mercurial, Solomon Alva’s goal was a lone bright spot in what was an otherwise disappointing outing. This is fast turning out to be a disastrous season for them and they are staring at relegation barring a major miracle.

Scorers: Solomon Alva 41' (Mercurial FC); Floyd Fernandes 9', Mica Levy 28', Abdulla Bibin 39', Dev R 30', Abhijeet Singh 46', Kashif Syed 56' (Supernova FC)

Rare Dare FC 4-5 Yataghan Internazionale

We were treated to a 9-goal thriller as Rare Dare took on Yataghan in the third game of the day. Yataghan looked to be in the driver’s seat almost until half-time, thanks to goals from Jay and Hans, although Rare Dare had pulled one back through Avinash.

But the tides turned when Darius cut the deficit to one with a goal in the 28th minute. When the second half resumed, Gautam scored for Yataghan, restoring the two-goal cushion, but Rare Dare ensured a thrilling final 15 minutes, as they drew level through a Franklin J goal and then an unfortunate own goal from substitute Mutsa.

A frantic final passage of play ensued as both team were all out to clinch the winning goal. But the drama only ended with Gautam’s last gasp winner, breaking Rare Dare hearts and setting off raucous celebrations in the Yataghan dugout.

Scorers: Avinash HF 21', Darius Ross 28', Franklin J 43', Mutsa Muswere (OG) 46' (Rare Dare FC); Jay Singadia 15', 23', Hans Sadhu 26', Gautam Rajagopalan 34',60' (Yataghan Internazionale)

Samba FC 1 - 0 Flipkart FC

Samba FC finally registered their first win of the season when they beat Flipkart FC in the first game of the afternoon. This was an evenly matched affair as predicted with chances hard to come by. Flipkart, though, got the first break of the game when they were awarded a penalty, but Paarth Dhar could only blast the ensuing spot kick wide, a miss that would eventually prove costly.

Samba were then looking to make the most of the lifeline they were handed and their lucky break also arrived in the form of a penalty. This time, though, striker Hemanth made no mistake as he slotted the ball home ensuring a lead for his team.

Samba then held on to take their first three points of this season, climbing upto 7th in the standings. For Flipkart, this was two steps back as some of their good work from the past weeks was undone. Both teams are in mid-table and will look to move up a few spots after the break.

Scorers: Hemanth Vijayakumar 46' (Samba FC)

Horizons FC 1 – 0 Gremio FC

Horizons FC left it late again and stayed in the title hunt as they sneaked past Gremio in the penultimate game of the day. It was heartbreak for Gremio for the second week running as they fell to a goal late in the game. Horizons FC needed the help of KV Aditya, who came on from the bench and unlocked a stout and well-organised defence.

Gremio had a host of chances of their own which they failed to make the most of. Vinodh, deputizing in goal for Horizons was forced into a crucial save too, but Gremio lacked the cutting edge up front to punish their opposition. Horizons are barely keeping up with Parikrma in the title race and have a huge goal difference to make up.

They will need to summon their goal scoring prowess from past seasons to get ahead in this race. For Gremio meanwhile, things look grim after three losses and a solitary win from 5 games and they will hope for a change in fortunes after the break.

Scorers: KV Aditya 56' (Horizons FC)

FC Kougen Kikou 1-4 Parikrma

The game between FC Kougen Kikou and Parikrma wrapped things up for the day. FC Kougen Kikou were expected to give a stern test to a Parikrma side that has just about been managing to eke out wins. But, all such hopes were dashed by a goalkeeping blunder from Yamamoto Kouji, who failed to stop a harmless shot on target by Louis Nickson and instead let it roll into the goal.

Nickson scored again in the 17th minute to ensure a 2-0 lead at half time for Parikrma. The game was put to bed within the opening seconds of the final period, with Prashanth providing the goal. Chiranjeevi then topped it up a few minutes later with a goal of his own.

Nishino scored in the 49th minute for the Japanese team, although it was no more than a consolation. Parikrma finally managed to win a game comfortably after two nervy last minute victories. Kougen Kikou meanwhile are in 11th place, left to rue their mistakes and they should use the break to strategize on how to convert their performance to wins.

Scorers: Yashuhiro Nishino 49' (FC Kougen Kikou); Louis Nickson 1',17'; Prashanth P 31', Chiranjeevi M 38' (Parikrma)
