Alex Anzalone is an American football linebacker for the Detroit Lions in the NFL as of 2024. The New Orleans Saints drafted him as the 76th pick in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Anzalone started four games before being placed on the injured reserve during his rookie season, and he ended the season with a sack and 16 tackles. In 2018, Anzalone played in 16 games while starting 7 of them and recorded two sacks, three forced fumbles, an interception and 59 tackles. In September 2019, Anzalone was placed on the injured reserve once again, but he came back strong in the 2020 season, and started nine games, recording 41 tackles. In 2021, Anzalone signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions and concluded his first season with the Lions with 78 tackles. In 2022, Anzalone extended his contract with the Lions for another season, while in 2023, the Lions offered him a 3-year extension.

Anzalone played college football at the University of Florida. As a freshman, he saw action in ten games after suffering a few injuries and recorded two tackles that season. In 2014, Anzalone played in all 12 games, earning the team’s Chris Patrick Courage Award and being named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. The following season, Anzalone suffered a shoulder injury that limited him to playing just two games. During his 2016 season, he hauled 53 tackles and declared that he would enter the NFL draft in 2017. Prior to joining college, Anzalone attended Wyomissing Area High School where he was named to the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game, according to the official website of the University of Florida.
