Alim McNeill is an American football defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions in the NFL as of 2024. The Detroit Lions selected Alim McNeill as the 72nd overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Born on May 11, 2000, McNeil started his professional football career at Jesse O. Sanderson High School. Before he got to college, McNeill was a two-way player in high school he both played as a linebacker and a running back. He also excelled in baseball during his high school career. However, football remained his primary focus, leading him to commit to North Carolina State University. He played as a defensive player for the NC State Wolfpack during the years 2018- 2020. He was an outstanding player in college his statistics included 77 tackles 10 sacks, an interception and even a touchdown.
In his junior year, McNeill’s impressive performance earned him the All-American awards from both The Athletic and Pro Football Focus. This achievement did not go unnoticed by the NFL scouts and this made McNeill declare for the 2021 NFL Drafts. After joining the Lions, he was able to progress and enhance his abilities to affect the game toward the team. His rookie contract was signed on in 2021 in what can be regarded as the onset of his NFL career.
