Carlton Davis III is an American football cornerback for the Detroit Lions in the NFL. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted him with the 63rd overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. At the end of his first campaign in 2018, Davis had 12 starts, in which he recorded 40 tackles and one forced fumble. Davis hauled 60 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble in his 2019 NFL campaign. In 2020, Davis recorded 14 game starts, 68 total tackles, and 4 interceptions. In Week 4 of the 2021 season, Davis had a quad injury that put him on injured reserve. He renewed his Buccaneers contract in 2022 for an additional three years. During the 2023 season, Davis recorded a total of 52 tackles. However, the Detroit Lions acquired Davis and two sixth-round picks in March 2024, in exchange for a third-round selection.
In the beginning, Davis was committed to playing collegiate football for Ohio State University. However, he ultimately made the decision to enroll at Auburn University. Davis ended his freshman year at Auburn in 2015, with 56 tackles and three interceptions. Davis finished his junior year with 36 tackles and an interception. Davis announced his intention to join the 2018 NFL Draft in January of 2018.
