Christian Jackson McCaffrey is an American football running back for the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 NFL season. The Carolina Panthers selected him with the 8th overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. McCaffrey was placed on Injured Reserve in December 2024, following a season-ending ligament injury in a game against the Buffalo Bills. As of December 17 2 024, he has 6,387 rushing yards, 52 rushing touchdowns, 524 receptions, 4,466 receiving yards, and 29 receiving touchdowns.

McCaffrey played for Stanford University from 2014 to 2016, where he earned the Paul Hornung Award, Jet Award, AP College Football Player of the Year, and Chic Harley Award, all in 2015. He was also named a Consensus All-American in the same year. McCaffrey initially attended Regis Jesuit High School for his freshman year and then transferred to Valor Christian High School, where he played running back, wide receiver, cornerback, and punter.

McCaffrey has started in all seven of his playoff appearances as of the 2023 NFL season. He made his first playoff appearance with the Panthers, playing in one game during the 2017 season, and appeared in six games with the 49ers. In his playoff career, he has recorded 105 carries for 522 rushing yards, 9 touchdowns, and 37 receptions for 314 receiving yards.

McCaffrey has an NFL Conference Championship record of 1-1.

In the 2022 NFC Championship, the 49ers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 31-7. In the game, he recorded 106 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown.

McCaffrey had 20 carries for 90 yards, two touchdowns, and 4 receptions for 42 yards in the 2023 NFC Championship against the Lions, helping the 49ers win 34–31 and reach Super Bowl LVIII. In the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs, McCaffrey rushed for 80 yards on 22 carries, recorded 8 receptions for 80 yards and a receiving touchdown. The 49ers lost the Super Bowl to the Chiefs 25–22.
