DeAndre Hopkins, often referred to as DHop, is one of the most desired wide receivers in the game today. One of his major strengths is his crazy athleticism which enables him to make some extremely difficult catches. Furthermore, DHop has amazing hands which he has shown time and again making some of the most tough one-handed catches in his career so far.

Hopkins has been around the league for a long time now. Drafted by the Houston Texans back in 2013, the highly skilled receiver is now a ten year veteran in the league. Having played most of his career with the Texans, he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals before the 2020 season.

Up until 2021, Hopkins had played in almost all the games throughout his career. In 2021, it was the first time he missed a series of games due to a hamstring issue, and then again missed the last few games of the season after he suffered a torn MCL in week 14.

At the start of 2022, he was suspended for the first six games as he violated the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy. As a result of which his last two years with the Cardinals saw him miss many games and his production levels also took a big hit.

DeAndre Hopkins’ Early Life and Age

DeAndre Hopkins was born on June 6, 1992, in Clemson, South Carolina to parents Steve Hopkins and Sabrina Greenlee. Currently, Hopkins is 31 years old and a ten-year veteran in the league. His father passed away due to a car accident when he was just a baby leaving his mother to raise him and his siblings all on her own.

DeAndre was always a substantially gifted athlete. He was part of the football, basketball and track teams for his high school in Central, South Carolina. Along with playing as a wide receiver in high school, he also played on the defensive side of the ball and made valuable contributions with 28 interceptions of which 5 of them were pick sixes. Even for his basketball team, he would play both as a point guard as well as a shooting guard. Excelling in both sports, Hopkins eventually chose the path of football.

DeAndre Hopkins in College

Being a native of South Carolina, Hopkins chose to attend Clemson University where he played as a receiver for the Clemson Tigers football team. Getting off to a quick start in his freshman year at Clemson, Hopkins continued his form and improved his showing as the games went on. He led all Clemson’s receivers with 52 receptions for 637 receiving yards.

The Tigers’ fortunes would start changing for the better in DeAndre’s sophomore and junior years and he was a big part of that change. From a 6-7 team in his freshman season to winning 10 and 11 games respectively in the next two years, the Tigers were improving to a great extent. Hopkins’ numbers were also on the rise, and his best year came as a junior as he crossed the 1,000 receiving yards mark for the first time. In 2013 however, Hopkins decided to forgo his senior year and enter the NFL Draft bringing an end to his college career.

DeAndre Hopkins in the NFL

DHop was taken by the Texans in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft and he was the number two wide receiver off the board that year. In the Texans’ uniform, Hopkins has had five out of his seven seasons where he crossed 1,000 receiving yards with his career-best coming in 2018 with 1,572 total receiving yards. In 2017, he led the league with 13 receiving touchdowns. Interestingly, throughout his career, he has always averaged more than 11 yards per catch every season.

By the end of his seven years in Houston, it was quite apparent that Hopkins and his team coach did not get along very well. Bill O'Brien, the head coach, felt that Hopkins was neither the leader he should have been and did not consider him the team’s core player. This resulted in Hopkins being traded to the Cardinals where he would serve his next three years.

With the Cardinals, DeAndre again started off with a great first season, but injuries and a six-week suspension at the start of 2022 hampered his progress. Recently, the Cardinals were looking to trade Hopkins but were unable to find any team interested in their offer. Eventually, Arizona had to let him walk for free making him a free agent.

As a free agent, there were several teams associated with Hopkins, however, none of the teams with whom he wanted to play for showed any genuine interest. A couple of weeks ago, news broke that Hopkins had found his new home with the Tennessee Titans after he had agreed to a two-year $26 million contract that can go up to $32 million with incentives.
