At Lake Travis High School, where he played for head coach Hank Carter, he had 1,151 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns, although he missed a portion of his senior season due to injuries. In his junior season, he had 98 catches for 1,774 yards and 32 touchdowns. He totaled 204 receptions for 3,359 yards and 55 touchdowns throughout his time in high school.

The Statesman named Wilson the 2017-18 Central Texas High School Athlete of the Year. The three-sport athlete at Lake Travis also attracted Division I scholarship offers. As a basketball player, he averaged 21 points per game and was named to first-team All-Central Texas. Upon graduating, he was a second-highest receiver and a five-star recruit, opting for the Ohio State University.
