Most of the waterboys in the NFL have a background in health science and sports medicine. While not mandatory, many teams do prefer waterboys with knowledge of the NFL's rules and regulations. This job is not gender-specific even though the name may suggest otherwise (via Pro Football Network).

What is an NFL waterboy’s salary?

The waterboy in the NFL makes between $50,000 and $60,000 annually. While they do get 12 paid holidays a year, waterboys have to work 40 hours a week. However, some receive internships for high school or college instead of earning a salary. They do not earn during the preseason games as well (via Pro Football Network).

However, they also receive ample amounts of aid such as health insurance, mental health, and dental in the benefits package provided by the league. Aside from 12 paid holidays per year, waterboys are also eligible for 16 weeks of paid parental leave and two weeks of paid family leave (via Pro Football Network).

Just like any player in the league, waterboys also have to sign a contract stating their duties and responsibilities along with a non-compete agreement as to avoid joining other teams (via Pro Football Network).
