DeMeco Ryans is a professional American football coach who serves as the head coach of the Houston Texans, as of the 2024 NFL season. He was born on July 28, 1984, in Bessemer, Alabama. As of January 2025, he is 40 years old. DeMeco Ryans is not only a coach but also a former professional American footballer who played as a linebacker in the National Football League. The Houston Texans selected Ryans as the 33rd pick in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. During his time with the Texans, Ryans was selected to the Pro Bowl twice, once in 2007 and another in 2009. He also won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2006. In 2012, Texans traded Ryans to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played for four seasons before getting released by them in 2016. Ryans announced his retirement in 2016 after playing a decade in the NFL.

After retiring as a football player, Ryans started his career as a professional coach in the NFL in 2017 when he was hired by the San Francisco 49ers as their defensive quality control coach. He was promoted twice by the 49ers since 2018 and won Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2022 as the defensive coordinator for San Francisco. Since becoming the head coach of the Houston Texans, he has turned the ship around in Houston by getting them to the playoffs in each of his first two years, after the team failed to make the playoffs for three straight years from 2020 to 2022.
