Levi Onwuzurike is an American football defensive tackle who plays for the Detroit Lions in the NFL. The Lions selected Onwuzurike as the 41st overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Onwuzurike’s football career started at Allen High School in Allen, Texas. In the senior year of high school, he was named the District 6-6A Defensive MVP and the All-Area Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. These accolades were well-deserved, as Onwuzurike recorded 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks.
Onwuzurike's talent caught the attention of several top college football programs, which included Baylor, Arizona State and Michigan. In the end, he decided to attend the University of Washington for his collegiate football career in 2016. In his redshirt freshman year, he started contributing to the team and recorded 16 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. In his sophomore season, he started in more games and recorded 34 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss as well as 3 sacks. His impressive performance in 2019 helped him be named as the first-team All-Pac 12 Conference, by recording 45 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks and 1 blocked kick in the special teams. In 2021, Levi Onwuzurike started playing for the Detroit Lions and signed a four-year contract. But in 2022, he suffered from a back injury and had to go through a season-ending back surgery.
