In 2022, he played in all 17 games and by the end of the season, he had 62 tackles and two interceptions. However, Carter II played in 15 games starting seven of them, and finished with 50 tackles and one forced fumble in 2023. Carter II signed a three-year contract extension with the New York Jets in September 2024.
For his collegiate football career, Carter II committed to Duke University. Carter II played in 12 games with two starts in 2017. However, he had a better season in 2018, with 11 starts and earning him a spot on the Academic All-ACC team. Carter II hauled 53 tackles in 2019 and was honored with the K.D. Kennedy Iron Devil Award and the Willis Aldridge Award. Carter II finished as a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy in 2020 and was selected to the Academic All-ACC, CoSIDA Academic All-District, and third-team All-ACC teams. Carter II attended South Paulding High School, before deciding to attend Duke for his college education.
