Colts fans hyped as team picks Adonai Mitchell in 2024 NFL draft - "Ballard draft mullet wizardry happening here"

The Indianapolis Colts pulled a massive coup during the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, with the team able to pick wide receiver Adonai Mitchell from Texas with their second-round pick, which translates to the No. 52 overall pick.

Mitchell was touted as a possible late first-round pick with a need for wide receivers from plenty of teams picking in that range, but he fell to the second round. Once the second day started, other receivers such as Ja'Lynn Polk and Keon Coleman were picked, but Mitchell kept falling.

While he has some character concerns, such as a possible failure to adequately treat his diabetes or his lack of production in college football, there's no denying that Mitchell is a great pick for the Colts. NFL fans couldn't believe that, after getting Laiatu Latu in the first round on Thursday, General Manager Chris Ballard was able to once again get a steal:

Most fans couldn't believe he was drafted so late:

"I can’t believe they got him this late in the draft. Great pic!", said another NFL fan
"This man will 100% out-perform Legette, Coleman, Pearsall, and Polk this year, and it won’t be close", wrote another
"This is a steal. Graded 1st rd," said a third one.

Why has Adonai Mitchell fallen in the draft? Texas receiver selected by Indianapolis Colts

Although his production in college football wasn't as great, with not even 1,400 receiving yards playing for Texas, he has a great prototype and would fit perfectly for a team that needs a wide receiver to work on short passes and contested catches.

Mitchell and Xavier Worthy, the other Texas wide receiver who impressed during draft season – he ran a 4.21 40-yard dash and was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round – have different profiles as players.

It's difficult to understand how Mitchell fell so much in the draft. It's okay to be selected after the top 3 wide receivers (Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze), but to prefer guys like Ricky Pearsall and Xavier Legette over him? Some teams may regret missing out on him, but not the Indianapolis Colts.
