Power Echols is a former collegiate football offensive linebacker for the North Carolina Tar Heels from 2021 to 2024. He registered a record of running the 40-yard dash in 4.73 seconds, undergoing a vertical jump of 37 inches and a broad jump of 9 feet 7 inches, as per NFL's official website. Last season, he played 12 games, including 76 tackles, 0.5 sacks, one interception, and six pass break-ups (PBU). During his junior year, Echols played all 13 games by tallying 102 tackles, 5.5 TFL, two forced fumbles and a PBU. He became one of the seven players to register 100-plus tackles in the ACC and was mentioned as a third-team All-ACC. At the 2023 Duke’s Mayo Bowl, Echols recorded 11 tackles with a 30-10 loss to West Virginia. In the sophomore season (2022), he was voted team captain and registered 103 tackles, including 70 solo stops, two PBU and five TFL. Power Echols grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and was born on January 20, 2003. He started playing football when he was six, initially playing as a running back. Echols moved from Arizona to Charlotte, North Carolina, before his high school education. He completed high school at Vance High School in Charlotte, competing for three seasons for the Vance football team. Echols changed his position as a defensive linebacker when his school coach offered him a starting position in his freshman season. His exemplary performance drew national attention, including attention from Tommy Thigpen, the North Carolina linebackers coach.

Echols helped Vance win the NCHSAA 4A State Championship as a sophomore before winning the title in his junior season. He was awarded MVP of the Championship with 1.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 tackles and a touchdown. He was called the Charlotte Observer Defensive Player of the Year for his performance.
