Taylor Lewan is an American professional football player in the NFL team. He was born in Loomis, California, United States on July 21, 1991. He plays the position of Offensive Tackle.

Taylor Lewan was born to Dave Lewan who was an offensive lineman back in his college days. As a result, it was only natural that Lewan would take an immediate interest in the game. Taylor attended high school at Cactus Shadows for a period of three years before transferring to Chaparral High School for his senior year of high school football. The interesting part about Lewan’s high school football career was that he was initially a defensive lineman when he played at Cactus Shadows who turned into an offensive lineman at Chaparral High School. As a 4-star recruit, Lewan accumulated many accolades and honors over the duration of his high school career.

Lewan continued his journey in football by committing to play at the University of Michigan. He redshirted his first year and started to play college football in 2010. At college, Lewan solidified his reputation of being a strong offensive lineman. He was actively able to protect the quarterback and open up lanes for running plays. His leadership skills were further honed at college when he was named team captain. As an elite offensive lineman, his performances led him to earn multiple accolades including being named to many All-Big Ten Conference teams and being named All-American.

Lewan played in the NFL for 8 seasons starting in 2014. He has played only for one team throughout his career. Over this duration, he had a prime stint from 2016 to 2018 where he was selected to three consecutive Pro Bowls. He also made it to the NFL’s Top 100 List in 2017 due to his spectacular performance.

Which Year was Taylor Lewan Drafted?

Taylor Lewan declared for the NFL draft in 2014. He was selected by the Tennessee Titans as the 11th overall pick in the NFL draft. The start of his career was poor considering that the Titans finished with league’s worst records of 2-14 and 3-13 in Lewan's rookie and sophomore years respectively. The following three years were considered to be Lewan's prime years as he erupted into his role of left tackle for the Titans. Completing his rookie contract, Lewan signed a mammoth deal for five years worth $80 million. After a few years of success, Lewan dealt with injuries in the subsequent years, which marked his decline within the league.

As a top prospect for the NFL, Lewan was projected to be a player of caliber similar to that of Nate Solder. Lewan was recognized for his pass protection, footwork, quickness to handle opposition speed and counters, toughness and dedication. Some of his weaknesses that were identified through the combine were that he was not as explosive as he should have been and that he was weak in adjusting to exterior blitzes. As per the Combine data, Lewan recorded 4.87 seconds on the 40-yard dash and 1.71 seconds on the 10-yard split. It was also expected that Lewan would be the starting tackle.
