Bentley played for the SMU Mustangs from 2019 to 2022. In 25 games, he rushed for 1,559 yards and 15 touchdowns on 273 carries. He was the AAC Co-Rookie of the Year in 2020, was a first-team All-AAC selection, and was an FWAA Freshman All-American. He was named to the second-team All-AAC in 2021. He transferred to Ole Miss in 2022 and played until the 2024 season. In 32 games with the Rebels, he ran for 1,032 yards 1,032 yards and 13 touchdowns on 195 carries. While at Ole Miss, he was also featured on preseason watch lists for both the Doak Walker Award and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. Throughout his six-year collegiate career, Bentley played in 57 games, totaling 2,591 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns on 468 carries, which averages 5.5 yards per attempt.
