Kenyans sweep Buenos Aires marathon

Buenos Aires, Oct 8 (IANS): Kenya’s Eric Luusa Nzioki won the Buenos Aires marathon, beating a record 8,135 runners, and leading his country’s clean sweep of the top three spots.

The number of participants in this year’s 42 km run surpassed last year’s 7,225, setting a new record for the annual event through the streets of Argentina’s capital, reports Xinhua.

Nzioki won with a time of 2:12.05, followed by fellow Kenyans Patrick Wachira Muriuki (2:13.12) and Robert Matu Mwangi (2:14.43) here Sunday.

In the women’s race, Kenya’s Lucy Karimi won the top spot with a time of 2:41.38, followed by compatriot Frasiah Nyambura Withaka (2:41.42) and Argentina’s Andrea Graciano (2:49.22).
