Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Prabhsimran Singh departed after scoring a fine half-century due to Heinrich Klaasen's catching brilliance in the first innings of the IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday (May 19). The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad is hosting the match.

Prabhsimran Singh set a great platform for PBKS with an aggressive knock of 71 (45) and looked good to get more. On the second ball of the 15th over bowled by leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Singh moved away from the stumps, trying to get room for a big shot. The bowler followed him, but Prabhsimran still went on with his shot.

However, he could not get the connection, as the ball went up after hitting the pads and brushed the gloves on the way. An alert Heinrich Klaasen judged the catch well and completed it with a dive.

Prabhsimran Singh's 71 helps PBKS reach a daunting total of 214/5 in IPL 2024 clash vs SRH

PBKS captain Jitesh Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first in the contest on Sunday afternoon. Atharva Taide (46) and Prabhsimran Singh (71) gave a good start to the visiting team with a partnership of 97 runs in 9.1 overs. Natarajan gave the first breakthrough for SRH by dismissing Taide in the 10th over.

There was no respite for the Sunrisers after the wicket as Rilee Rossouw (49) joined Prabhsimran Singh and continued to score briskly. The duo put together 55 runs for the second wicket before Singh's departure in the 15th over. Jitesh Sharma then finished the innings on a high with a blazing cameo to power his side to 214.

Reflecting on the first innings during the break, Atharva Taide said:

"It was really coming on to the bat well. I think we've got to a good score. I had some butterflies but as I saw the wicket, I saw it was coming really good. I could've scored more. It's a good score, that's what we believe. But it's a new-ball game. If we take early wickets, we can put the pressure on the batters. The ball is holding a bit on the surface too."
