India’s Ajay Jayaram moved into the second round of the 2015 US Open Grand Prix Gold after beating Howard Shu of United States of America(USA) 21-19 21-11 in 32 minutes in the opening round.
Game 1 proved to be a tight contest as both players continued to peg one another back, but as is the case with most close games, the player who wins the critical points at key junctures is the one who eventually comes out trumps and it was Jayaram, who managed to do that, when at the 19-19, he first, earned the game point opportunity and then converted that chance to make it 21-19 in his favour.
Game 2 saw both players once again exchange the lead but the important turn in the match happened at the 8-8 mark when the Indian won 2 straight points to take 10-8 lead, but an even more decisive phase occurred few minutes later as Jayaram went from being 11-9 up to 17-9 up, by winning 6 points on the trot to completely take the game and match away from his opponent and eventually seal the game 21-11 and progress into the second round.
He will take on Jan Frohlich of Czech Republic in the second round.
