Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy in action

India’s Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy lost their second Group D encounter, this time, to the Chinese pairing of Chai Biao and Hong Wei 21-13 21-15 at the Riocentro Pavillion on Friday.

Like was the case against Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan on Thursday, the Indians began on a bright note on Friday as well, keeping a tight check over proceedings, not allowing the Chinese pairing to get away with the lead until the interval mark at 11-01 in the opening game after which it was the Chinese who absolutely dominated proceedings, winning 10 out of the next 12 points to eventually seal the game 21-13.

The second game saw Attri and Reddy start off on a positive note as they took a 3-0 lead but soon found themselves trailing again and eventually went into the interval at 9-11 down.Following the break, they continued to pile on the pressure on the Indian duo, not allowing them to enter into the match at any stage to eventually win it 21-15.

Their loss also all but seals India’s fate in the doubles, with Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also losing their matches earlier in the day.

Final Scoreline: Chai Biao/Hong Wei beat Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy 21-13 21-15
