Saina Nehwal to participate in Badminton Nationals

Saina Nehwal is expected to participate in the Nationals this year

Saina Nehwal has given her entry for the championships to be held at Siri Fort Sports Complex from December 16-23.

Currently ranked no.6 in the World, Saina Nehwal last played in the nationals six years ago in 2007. The 78th edition of the National competition will be held at Delhi after a gap of 14 years.

This year’s edition will feature prominent players like P V Sindhu who recently won bronze in World Championships and defending champion Sayali Gokhale in women’s singles.

The men’s singles will see defending champion P Kashyap who will face a strong challenge from the likes of Thailand GP Gold winner K Srikant, Ajay Jayaram, HS Prannoy.

“Almost every top player in the country have confirmed their entries for the nationals and we are confident that the tournament will be a grand success,” said Apinder Sabharwal, Organising Secretary.

The qualifying rounds for the individual events will be held on December 16-17 and the main competition will start from December 20. The inter-state team championship will be held on December 18 and 19. The Championship will consist of five events.
