At 20, Saina Nehwal is no more a young sports sensation. Saina Nehwal is now poised to be the world champion. Her win at the Honk Kong Super Series hasS broken new ground in many ways. First of all, this can be symbolic of the end of Chinese dominance in the World of Badminton. Another Super Series win for Saina against the top competitors has served her challenge for the top position well.

2010 has been a golden year for Saina, she reached the world no. 3 ranking in June, followed it up with a gold at the Commonwealth Games and then went on to win the BWF Championshps too. But this win is much too special for Saina and the country as it comes as a new year gift and will be a great boost to her overall standing in world badminton.

Saina Nehwal defeated China’s Shixian Wang to win the Hong Kong Super Series title, her fourth Super series title. The match was closely contested which was expected in a final, and Saina proved her worth by coming from 1-0 behind to clinch the last two sets in a cinematic performance. The scoreline finally stood, 16-21, 21-16, 21-17.

Saina’s way to the final was not all milk and roses. She faced a stern test in the semi-final on Saturday when she took on Juliane Schenk. She beat her convincingly in the third set though to march into the finals. The socreline stood in favor of Saina Nehwal, 21-19, 17-21, 21-12.

The final game against third seeded Shixian Wang was a game of great toil. This victory caps a path-breaking year for Saina and this was her third super series win this year! Add to that her win at the CWG that added significant popularity to her image in India. Saina Nehwal is one of the standout nominees for the ?Indian Sports-person of the year award for sure.
