New Delhi - Following a successful outing at the World Championships last week in Guangzhou, top Indian shuttler Parupalli Kashyap wants to continue his form for the rest of the season.
The Hyderabadi said that though he was disappointed with his men’s singles quarterfinal loss Friday, he was happy with the way he performed in China.
“I was in great form and was doing really well in the tournament. Although I missed my chance to win a medal but I am happy with the way I played throughout. I wanted to do well at the Worlds as I had trained very hard for it. Now I want to focus on my game and maintain my form for the rest of the season,” Kashyap told IANS.
The 26-year-old was at matchpoint in the second game of the quarterfinal against Chinese World No.3 Pengyu Du but failed to convert it and win at least the bronze by reaching the last four stage.
“I was one point away and I could not convert it into a medal; that is obviously disappointing. But on the other side I am happy to have reached the last eight by beating top players.”
Asked how is he planning to handle pressure situations, the World No.17 said: “Probably I need to keep a little more check on how to approach these situations and finish off these matches. I will have to sit down with my coach and discuss.
“At matchpoint, there was a thought that I could get the medal and at least assure my country gets a bronze. But in that situation, you really cannot do much because the sport is so quick. You need to serve and win the point immediately which did not happen this time.”
The World Championships was also India’s best ever outing with Saina Nehwal reaching the quarters and P.V. Sindhu winning a bronze in the women’s singles event.
“India is doing pretty well right now in the international circuit. We had a great result as three of us made it to the quarterfinals. I wish all three could have won the medal but unfortunately Saina was sick during the tournament. She had diarrhoea and was totally energy less. I too missed it but I am really happy for Sindhu. She played totally deserved it,” added Kashyap, who is also the icon player for Banga Beats in the Indian Badminton League.
