Youth Olympics: Prannoy HS Reaches Final in Badminton

Indian shuttler Prannoy Haseena Sunilkumar reached the finals of the Youth Olympics games Badminton. Prannoy won his semifinal match against Korean Ji Wook Kang 19-21, 21-17, 21-17 in 47 minutes. He will meet the winner of the other semifinal match between Pisit Poodchalat of Thailand who defeated Malaysian Wei Sheng Loh 21-16, 19-21, 21-3 RET . Earlier Prannoy defeated Frenchman Lucas Claerbout, Jamaican Dennis Coke and Phetphanom KeoPhiachan of Laos in the previous rounds.

In tennis, Indian hope Yuki Bhambhri reached the semifinals defeating John Morissey of Ireland in the quarter final by 6-4, 6-4. Yuki, seeded sixth will now face second seeded Bosnian Damir Dzumhur for a place in the final.

Archer Seema Verma reached the quarter finals of Junior Women’s individual event winning Tanja Sorsa of Finland by a huge margin of 6-0. While Atanu Das was not so lucky as he lost his match against Joni Hautamaki 5-6. Both Das and Verma were 5th in their ranking round earlier. In mixed team event Das and his American partner Miranda Leek lost their 1/16 elimination round match 4-6 against Maud Custers and Vasil Shahnazaryan. Seema Verma also lost in the mixed team event as she and her Hungarian partner Sebastien Linster lost their match 2-6 against Aleksandra Wojnicka and Yakiz Yilmaz.

Rowing team of Nimmy Thomas and Mitali Shekhar Deo finished 5th in the final B of Junior Women’s pair, while the men’s pair team of Yasin Khan and Gurpreet Singh also finished 5th in their event.

Indian basketball team continued their dismal run and lost 20-33 to Greece their third group match today.

China continues to lead the overall standings with 10 golds, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals. Russia (9-9-3) is at second and Korea (5-1-1) pipped Azerbaijan (9-1-0) to the third position in the points tally. India has 1 silver and 1 bronze.
