Alex Bregman reacts to GM Dana Brown's interest in extending his contract with Astros

Houston Astros third baseman and shortstop Alex Bregman has been an integral part of the team's success since his debut in 2016. With his contract expiring in 2024, GM Dana Brown has publicly stated his interest in extending Bregman's contract and wants him to retire with the Astros.

In a recent interview, Bregman expressed his pleasure with the relationship he has had with the management and how much that means to him. If things go according to plan, he could play for the Astros for many years beyond 2024.

Speaking about Brown's faith in him, he said:

"I love Houston..the people.I love my teammates. I love this city. It means a lot to me and my family. I feel like the last few years have been great playing for this city, for this team. It definitely means a lot that he says that."

Alex Bregman was selected by the Houston Astros in the second round of the 2015 MLB draft.

He went on to make his debut in July 2016 at third base against the New York Yankees after spending a year in the minor leagues. Since then, he has been named an All-Star twice and also won the World Series twice. In 2017, he was also the youngest member of Team USA when they went on to win the World Baseball Classic championship.

Bregman has had a memorable season with the Houston Astros and will look to continue his impressive performances. In the regular season, he batted .259/.366/.454 in 548 at bats with 93 runs (5th in the AL), 38 doubles (10th), 23 home runs, 93 RBIs (8th), 87 walks (2nd), and 7.1 at-bats-per-strikeout (9th), while leading the AL with 10 sacrifice flies.

In the second game of the 2022 World Series, he set a record for the most career home runs hit by a third baseman.

No matter what the future holds for Alex Bregman beyond his current contract, he will now be focused on spring training with the Houston Astros.

Having signed new GM Dana Brown in the hopes of sustaining their winning ways, the Astros will look to defend the World Series title for the first time. Bregman has played an important part in their seccess in recent years, and it looks like he will continue to do so in the near future.

The Astros start their title defense against the Chicago White Sox on the opening day.
