The San Francisco Giants missed out on signing reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge this winter. It was a tough blow to the team, as there was real talk of the slugger coming to San Francisco.

There was even a misjudged tweet from MLB insider Jon Heyman saying, "Arson" Judge was signing with the team. Overall, it has been a tough offseason for the Giants.

"To tease you like that, it's a real kick in the n*ts," said Joc Pederson.

San Francisco Giants teammates Joc Pederson and Logan Webb recall seeing the tweet from Heyman, thinking the deal was done. For seven minutes, the whole team was hyped, with players texting in the group chat. It all came crashing down as soon as it was revealed that Heyman's tweet wasn't correct.

It was a huge blow for the team as they were certain Judge would sign with them. He grew up in the area and was even a Giants fan as a kid. Aaron Judge would go on to sign a nine-year, $360 million contract with the New York Yankees.

Judge surely would have made the Giants a better team than they previously were. They finished the season with a .500 record last year and missed the playoffs.

After learning that Aaron Judge was singing with the Yankees, the Giants shifted their focus to Carlos Correa. Correa was one of the top shortstops on the free agent market, offering him a 13-year, $350 million contract. He would have been an upgrade at the position for the team, moving Brandon Crawford over to third base.

During the physical, however, the San Francisco Giants saw something that worried them. Correa had ankle surgery in 2014, and doctors are worried about how it will hold up over time.

After learning about Correa's ankle, the team didn't feel comfortable signing him. Correa would go on to try and make a deal with the New York Mets, but they, too, were worried about his ankle.

It's been an adventurous offseason for the San Francisco Giants. They were certain they were signing two All-Stars, but that never happened. They were able to sign Mitch Haniger, but he is no Aaron Judge.

It will be interesting to see how the San Francisco Giants do this season. Will we see a better team in 2023 or the same .500 team from the year before?
