In his latest column for the New York Post, MLB analyst Jon Heyman heralded the New York Mets' new elite rotation. It does indeed look tremendous, featuring Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga, and Jose Quintana. Jacob deGrom was replaced with Verlander, Chris Bassitt with Senga and Taijuan Walker with Quintana.

Verlander, the reigning Cy Young winner, has signed a two-year, $50 million deal with New York. He has over 200 career wins and an impressive track record. Senga, a 28-year-old Japanese pitcher, joined the Mets on a one-year, $3 million deal. He's known for his 100 mph fastball and wicked splitter.

Quintana, a left-hander, has inked a one-year, $2 million deal with the team. He's had success in the past (including an All-Star appearance in 2016), but has struggled recently.

Heyman heaped praise on the rotation, writing:

"The real difference is in the pitching staff, especially the rotation, where the superhuman Jacob deGrom will be replaced by the equally superhuman but more dependable and Cooperstown-bound Justin Verlander, the super-solid Chris Bassitt will be replaced by the talented Kodai Senga and the improved Taijuan Walker will be replaced by older but also improving Jose Quintana."

Together, these three pitchers have the potential to take New York deep into the playoffs. Even though they have big shoes to fill, fans are optimistic that this new rotation will bring them success. The Mets last won the World Series in 1986 and fans are desperate for another championship title.

New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is expected to go above and beyond for Shohei Ohtani

Going by owner Steve Cohen's transaction this offseason, it is evident that he is ready to go above and beyond to create a winning team.

Next winter, Cohen is reportedly eyeing a deal to land Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani. The two-way phenomenon is currently set for free agency. New York is ready for a bidding war to secure Ohtani and Cohen has been known to spare no expense in his quest for a championship.

With the addition of Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga, and Jose Quintana to their rotation, the team is already making a strong push for the 2023 World Series. If they can add Ohtani to their roster next offseason, their chances will only improve thereon. New York may need to shell out amounts as high as estimates of $500 million to bring in the Japanese star.

Other than the Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, and San Francisco Giants will be the main contenders for Ohtani. It will be interesting to see where Ohtani plays in the 2024 season as he could be the missing piece in a World Series winning puzzle.
