New York Mets fans fume as Francisco Lindor’s professes belief in team despite poor start to season: "Same thing every year" "Pretty sad statement"

It may be a little early for New York Mets fans to panic after a 3-4 start to the season, and shortstop Francisco Lindor is doing what he can to head the anxiety train off at the pass.

The history of the New York Mets is littered with a bevy of seasons that have imploded, and there are still 155 games remaining in the 2023 season.

After a three-game sweep at the hands of the host Milwaukee Brewers concluded Wednesday, Lindor professed his belief that the team is every bit worthy of the contender status most believed the Mets to be over the winter.

He told reporters after Wednesday's game:

"I believe in this team. I believe in every single guy that we have. We have what it takes, we have the it factor. They outplayed us, you got to give them credit."

However, no matter what Francisco Lindor says, he's only been with the Mets for three seasons and one mild heartbreak. He's trying to preach faith to generations of New Yorkers who have had 10 playoff appearances to cheer for in the 62 years of the franchise's existence.

They think they've seen this movie several times before, and are in no mood for a repeat screening in 2023.

The Mets entered the season with enormous expectations of winning the World Series after owner Steve Cohen invested in excess of $336 million into the team's payroll.

Superstar closer Edwin Diaz suffered a season-ending injury after celebrating a World Baseball Classic victory. Monumental free agent signing Justin Verlander also opened the season on the injured list after being diagnosed with a low-grade strain of the teres major muscle in his shoulder at the end of Spring Training.

Fans don't want to hear talk motivated at salving the masses. This includes Francisco Lindor's postgame sermon after the Mets stunk-up Milwaukee for three days straight. Rather, fans want to see their team turn it around on the field with actions, not words. Until that happens, expect the New York panic to continue.

The bad news is abundant for Mets fans this spring, as top prospect Brett Baty, whom many New Yorkers felt should not have been demoted to the minors, is shelved in Triple-A due to right thumb inflammation.

The New York Mets have won two World Series titles in franchise history -- 1969 and 1986. There were 27 years between the victories. The orange and blue is due.

After logging two hits in his first 18 at-bats this season, Francisco Lindor did break out for three hits in four at-bats Wednesday. In doing so, he raised his average from .111 to .227.
