During the 2021 season, the New York Mets were in the midst of a game, deep into the 7th inning, when an alleged fight broke out between Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor.

The camera caught Michael Conforto and Dom Smith hurrying towards the clubhouse during the 7th innings. Everyone present seemed to be bewildered about what was going down.

Before Confronto and Smith went to the doghouse, McNeil and Lindor had gone before them. It was believed that the two had gotten into an argument. Confronto and Smith went on to break it up.

However, when a reporter asked Lindor what had happened back in the clubhouse, he deflected the question with a bizarre answer. He said the following:

"Hey, I told him ( Jeff McNeil ) that I have never seen a New York rat. So we went down sprinting. He got mad at me saying no it's not a rat, it's a raccoon. I am like 'hell no man' it's a damn rat. It's a New York rat man. It was just crazy we were going back and forth if it was a rat or a raccoon. Crazy man, insane".

He went on to elaborate:

"With Jeff. I was like bro you have got to check this out. I was like, this is a New York rat and he was like, no man, I have been here longer than you."

Needless to say, no one really believed the New York Mets shortstop.

Jeff McNeil had the hopes of fans riding on his shoulders for the 2023 WBC tournament. However, the utility player didn't quite perform as he would have hoped to.

McNeil had the following to say:

“Obviously, you wish you were playing more,”

Mets fans are far from confident about their team's chances at the upcoming 2023 World Series as superstar, Edwin Díaz is injured.

Meanwhile, McNeil seems to be unperturbed about the criticism coming his way. The two-time All-Star shot back with this statement:

“I’ll be fine. We had three weeks of spring training last year and I won a batting title. I don’t need that much time.”

Jeff McNeil will have to perform extremely well in the upcoming games to reassure Mets fans.
