NBA trade deadline Recap

We look back on the hectic deals that went through on Thursday, the deadline day for all trades to happen in the NBA for the current season. It was kind of disappointing in the end as there were no big movers in the league as the likes of Josh Smith stuck to their guns to see out their contract with the Hawks. That made J.J. Redick the biggest mover before the deadline as he was shipped to Milwaukee as reported earlier.

Here are all the deals that happened last night:

Celtics acquire Jordan Crawford

The Boston Celtics acquired the services of shooting guard Jordan Crawford from the Washington Wizards. The Celtics sent guard Leandro Barbosa and centre Jason Collins to the capital to make the deal happen.

boston gets a guy who can create his own offence but is an inefficient scorer(shooting a mere 40% in his short career) while being an atrocious defender. The talent to play both guard positions lies in Crawford but will Doc Rivers be able to mould him into an effective piece as the Celtics move in to the business end of the season? Only time will tell.

Charles Jenkins and Jeremy Tyler dealt by the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors sent Charles Jenkins to Philadelphia 76ers cash and a protected second-round draft pick. Meanwhile, Jeremy Tyler went to the Atlanta Hawks in a similar move.

The moves were made by the Warriors to get below the luxury tax limit of $70.3 million. Dealing the two players allow them to move below the dreaded tax limit after as they were floundering around $71.1 million before the deals were made.

Ronnie Brewer heads to OKC, while Eric Maynor is dealt away by the Thunder

Ronnie Brewer, known for his defensive prowess had been struggling to make any hay in the Big Apple. The shooting guard has been posting career low numbers in the colours of the Knicks.

Brewer, who was signed by New York in free agency this summer, made a quick exit from New York after the Knicks shipped him to Oklahoma for a second round pick. This also frees up playing time for Iman Shmpert.

In another minor move, the Oklahoma City Thunder sent Eric Maynor, who had fallen behind Reggie Jackson in the pecking order, to the Portland Trailblazers for the right to Giogos Printezis, a second round pick playing in Greece.

Other small moves

-Orlando Magic sent Josh McRoberts to Charlotte Bobcats for Hakim Warrick.

-Dallas Mavericks sent Dahntay Jones to Atlanta Hawks for Anthony Morrow.

-Phoenix Suns sent Sebastian Telfair to Toronto Raptors for Hamed Haddadi and a second-round pick

-Miami Heat sent Dexter Pittman and a second-round pick to Memphis Grizzlies for rights to Ricky Sanchez.

In all, the trade deadline was a disappointment for all that were waiting for a big move as most team ended up wanting to sell rather than being buyers. History has taught GMs to be cautious of last minute deals. Only two deals (Rasheed Wallace to Pistons and Pau Gasol to Lakers) have had a resounding effect on the franchise in deals made on deadline day.
