NBA Injury Report: Giannis Antetokounmpo questionable, Luka Doncic out and more updates on Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving | March 13, 2023

Dallas Mavericks v Milwaukee Bucks
NBA injury report headlined by status of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic.

Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo’s return to action will be questionable when the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Sacramento Kings tonight. The “Greek Freak” has missed his team’s last three games due to a sore right hand.

Antetokounmpo has been dealing with a slew of injuries over the past month. He injured his wrist before the All-Star break and banged his knee against Victor Oladipo immediately after the Bucks resumed their schedule.

The sore right hand was somewhat unexpected as the seven-time NBA All-Star was on a tear. Before the injury, he was averaging 30.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and 6.8 assists. He was also hitting 54.8% of his shots, including 44.4% of his three-point attempts.

The last time Antetokounmpo played, he controversially went for a triple-double, which was eventually rescinded by the NBA, against the Washington Wizards.

Milwaukee will be playing a back-to-back set starting with tonight’s matchup against the Kings and then the Phoenix Suns the following night. The Bucks could sideline him in one of these games.

Meanwhile, NBA superstar point guard Luka Doncic has been ruled out by the Dallas Mavericks for their game versus the Memphis Grizzlies. Doncic has been sidelined due to a left thigh strain.

“Luka Legend” complained after the Mavericks’ game versus the New Orleans Pelicans last Wednesday that he couldn’t push off his left leg. After Dallas lost the game, Doncic said that his thigh “didn’t feel good.”

The Dallas Mavericks have ruled him out for the second straight game when the rematch against the Grizzlies takes place. He is considered day-to-day, but Dallas is going to need his presence as they push for a spot in the playoffs.

Dallas is desperately clinging to the eighth seed in the Western Conference with a 34-34 record. They’re just a game ahead of the Pelicans, the OKC Thunder, the LA Lakers and Utah Jazz from 9th - 12th place.

The four-time NBA All-Star’s presence is critical for the Mavericks’ playoff aspirations.

Kevin Durant: Left ankle sprain; Injured since March 8, 2023

Kevin Durant’s highly-anticipated home debut for the Phoenix Suns has been indefinitely moved after he injured his left ankle during warmups. The freak incident kept him out of the game versus the OKC Thunder and was previously reported to be re-evaluated in two weeks.

The Suns, however, have informed the media that the re-evaluation will be done in three weeks. There’s a very big possibility that the two-time NBA Finals MVP will not return until the play-in tournament or the postseason.

The 13x NBA All-Star has played just three games for the Suns, all on the road, this season. He is averaging 26.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Durant is hitting 69.0% of his field-goal attempts, including 53.8% from deep for Phoenix.

Kyrie Irving: Right foot soreness; Injured since: March 11, 2023

Kyrie Irving is dealing with right foot soreness and remains questionable for the Dallas Mavericks tonight versus the Memphis Grizzlies. He didn’t play last Saturday in Dallas’ game against Memphis due to the same issue.

Irving participated in light drills before he was scratched from the lineup when the Mavericks visited the Grizzlies. He could also miss the rematch as his right foot might still be bothering him.
