Fide has released the July chess ratings which have World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen on a runaway lead with a record rating of 2837. The highest ever rating record is held by legendary 13th World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov of an ‘Everest elo’ worth 2851!
The list of top players is published at dedicated page of FIDE ratings website. All players can check new ratings at the main page of FIDE ratings website or download TXT version from downloads page.
The new ratings available for players from this July include those for Rapid and Blitz Chess as well. Further, from July 2012 FIDE will be publishing publishes rating lists on a monthly basis. Moreover, Fide has also reduced the rating floor for players to be 1000.
A quirky thing about the July 2012 rating list is that India’s World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand has lost 11 points in the World Chess Championship match and slipped to 5th place, while Israel’s Boris Gelfand has gained those points to go to the 16th place from the 20th. This is something difficult for non-chess players or amateur chess players to figure out. But, this happened because the World Chess Championship witnessed the classical games’ section being a draw between the then 4th ranked Anand and the 20th ranked Gelfand. Some Chess Magazine B&W readers have suggested that World Chess Championships should be non-rated because of their unique nature.
Among the women chess players, World’s No. 1 Judit Polgar has increased her rating to 2709. China’s Hou Yifan is in second place with 2621. Slovenia’s Anna Muzychuk is in third place and India’s Koneru Humpy is in fourth place. But, there is only an overall 20 points-range among the Yifan, Muzychuk, and Humpy.
