Marist Liufau fulfilled his lifelong dream of being drafted into the NFL on Friday. The Notre Dame linebacker was picked up by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft. His girlfriend and Fighting Irish women's basketball star, Sonia Citron, couldn't control her excitement at the achievement.

Citron took to Instagram to gush over Liufau’s third-round selection into the NFL and shared a couple of snaps with him. She also said that there wasn't anyone more deserving of a chance than the linebacker in the draft. Here is what she posted after the Notre Dame Fighting Irish star was picked in the 2024 NFL draft:

Liufau was a starter for two seasons for the Fighting Irish and had 51 tackles as a full starter in his junior year. In his final season with the team before the draft, he had 44 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks and two pass breakups. He made quite an impression on scouts and NFL franchises, and it led to his selection by the Dallas Cowboys as the 87th overall pick in the draft.

Now it is time for Liufau to shine on the biggest stage and for his girlfriend, Sonia Citron, to cheer for him from the stands.

Marist Liufau and Sonia Citron: Two years of togetherness

In January, Marist Liufau and Sonia Citron celebrated two years together. Citron took to Instagram to share an adorable snap with the former Notre Dame star and an equally adorable message. The snap showed the couple hugging each other while looking at a rainbow. The Fighting Irish guard captioned the post:

“Two with you.”

There have been numerous occasions where the couple openly showed their love for each other. Their social media is brimming with snaps of each other on vacation or supporting each other as partners. It is just that now, the stage will be as big as it can get for Liufau, and the whole nation will watch him sporting a Cowboys star on his uniform. Citron will surely be there at AT&T Stadium, cheering on the new NFL sensation.
