Andy Flower given the sack after England's Ashes humiliation

Andy Flower, the coach of the England cricket team, has been asked to step down from his post after the team’s disastrous tour of Australia.

According to the Telegraph, Flower was called into a meeting at Lord’s on Thursday and told that his time was up by Paul Downton, the new managing director of England cricket, who has been conducting a review of England’s performance in Australia.

The official announcement is expected to come after the England team returns from Australia.

Flower was given no choice but to pack his bags after England managed to win just 1 of their 12 games and lose the other 11 against Australia in all formats.

Flower entered the England set-up as an assistant coach to Peter Moores in 2007 and went on to become the head coach in 2009. In Flower’s time as England coach, the team has won the Ashes three times and clinched their first World Twenty20 title in 2009 in the Caribbean.

England beat Australia 3-0 in July to win the Ashes for the third successive time but were drubbed 5-0 in the return series in Australia just about a month ago.
