Four favourites of T20 World Cup: Strengths and Weakness

India

Strength

India has always been one of the favourites due to the number of quality batsmen present in their squad. Players such as V. Sehwag, V. Kohli, G. Gambhir, Y. Singh, Dhoni, Raina are capable of putting up any score on the board as well as chase down any score. All these batsmen are big hitters of a white cricket ball, which is a very important ingredient in a T20 match.

Weakness

But India falls short on the quality of bowlers. There are no Indian bowlers that can create fear amongst opponents. Zaheer is the only bowler who can break opponent’s back but he is also not consistent in the shortest format of the game. India also may be weakest team as far as bowling in depth is concerned.

West Indies

Strengths

They have one of the most balanced side in the competition. They are one of the best fielding sides in the world. If you look at their batsmen, C. Gayle, Bravo brothers; their all rounders, Andre Russell, Dwayne Smith and K. Pollard, and when we look at their bowling attack with F. Edwards, Ravi Rampaul and Sunil Narine, there is nothing that the West Indies team seem to fall short of. Hence, they are the one of the strongest teams in the competition.

Weakness

But, one of their major drawbacks might be their inconsistent performances. But if this is taken care of, then the West Indies team would be a strong force to be reckoned with.

Sri Lanka

Strengths

Beating Sri Lanka at home is always considered to be one of the toughest job in international cricket. It is not only because of this factor that this Sri Lankan team is considered to be a favourite. But it is also their quality spinners who can create pressure against their opposition. Even in a T20 match, they hardly give away any costly overs. Herath and Mendis are two world class spinners. Their seam attack include Malinga and Kulasekara – the best in the business. They have great batsmen such as Dilshan, Jayawardene, Sangakkara, who has been born and brought up playing in such conditions, so it should not be difficult for them to tackle any bowler.

Weakness

But this team might be under pressure as there are lots of expectations from the Sri Lankan supporters. They expect Sri Lanka to win the title playing under home conditions.

South Africa

Strength

They have always been known as chokers and how desperate they must be to get rid of this tag. T20 World Cup gives them the perfect opportunity to showcase their strength and walk away with the title. Under the guidance of AB De Villiers, they have a great squad to make it all the way. Apart from their skipper, De Villiers, who is a terrific batsmen, their batting strength also include Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, Richard Levi, Jean-Paul Dumin and Faf du Plessis. This batting line up can play according to the demands of the situation. Botha needs to be on top of his game as he will be the most important spinner in the slow Sri Lankan pitches.

Weakness

But, the South Africans are known for their weakness against the spinners, and other teams would love to exploit their weakness.

But, there are a host number of teams such as Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, England who are also serious contenders for the ICC T20 World Cup. Especially in the T20 format, the team which plays well for three hours have a greater chance of winning the match. So, it could be anyone’s game.
