ICC World T-20: India reaches semifinals!

Women can be better than men, especially when it comes to saving the country’s name. India (men’s team) may have crashed out of the super eight losing all three of their league matches. But, the women’s team played their hearts out against the Australians in the semi-finals in T20 tournament that was also being held in West Indies simultaneously.

The Indian women’s team was grouped with New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super Eight. India lost their first match against New Zealand by 10 runs but that hardly seemed to hamper the hope and spirits of our Indian women. They played the Pakistan team next and won the match by 9 wickets and 20 balls to spare. Their last super eight league match was against the Sri Lankan women’s team and they trampled the Sri Lankan team, winning by a huge margin of 71 runs.

They reached the semi-finals and their next opponent was the Australian Women’s team. And this country seems to be doing nothing wrong at the moment may it be men or women. India tried their best to win the match and restrict the Australians by batting first and defending the total. Australia won the match by 7 wickets and 7 balls to spare.

On the other hand in the other semi-final which was against the West Indies and New Zealand, it was the New Zealand team that won by a huge margin of 56 runs.

ICC World T-20 for Women

It was a fight for the top spot between Australia and New Zealand. The finals were held on the 16th of May, 2010 at Kensington Oval. The match was an absolute thriller that went down to the wire and kept everyone at the edge of the seats. The Australian Women only managed to score 106 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. The New Zealand women bowled to the right line and length and were awarded for it. The New Zealand team needed 107 runs to win, which in the T20 format is highly achievable. But, the New Zealand team seemed to crumble under pressure and lost quick wickets. New Zealand in the last over needed 14 runs to win and once again it was the Australian team that kept their cool and bowled a magnificent last over and won the finals by 3 runs.

E.A.Perry who bowled an outstanding last over and took three important wickets to bring home the cup to the Australian team was also named the man of the match for the finals, while NJ Browne of New Zealand Women was awarded the player of the series.

So, one way or the other the Australian team did bring home an ICC World cup.

Well, finally India has something to look forward to; at least the women’s team seems to consider the graveness of the situation.
