After suffering a humiliating loss at the hands of the same opponents in first ODI at Dharamsala, India produced a smashing turnaround in the second ODI. Here are four aspects which helped change the fortunes in their favour.

#4 Openers set solid platform

Before the start of the match, Indian batsmen were under immense pressure due to their poor performance in the first match. After losing the toss, India batted first on a pitch that was slightly difficult to bat early on.

India needed a solid start as the middle order was relatively inexperienced. Both Rohit and Dhawan started cautiously. The duo scored 33 runs off first 10 overs without getting separated.

After getting the measure of the pitch, both players started playing their strokes. Rohit was happy to play second fiddle to the free-flowing Dhawan. The 115-run opening partnership helped establish the platform for India's dominant total.

#3 Persisting with Shreyas Iyer at number three

India had to face a lot of criticism after a dismal performance by the their middle-order in the previous game. Surprisingly, the experienced Ajinkya Rahane was also dropped from the playing XI for this match too.

Unfazed by the criticism, the team management persisted with the same middle-order. Shreyas Iyer, who had scored just nine runs in the opening match, got another chance to bat when Dhawan was dismissed.

Shreyas made full use of the opportunity and played a blazing knock of 88 runs from 70 balls inclusive of nine fours and two towering sixes. He played positively right from the start and continued his tempo throughout the innings. His partnership of 213 runs for the second wicket with Rohit dented Sri Lanka's hopes.

#2 Bowlers firing in unison

After being off-colour in the first match, the Indian bowlers came back strongly in Mohali. The seam duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya started off on good note by dismissing the Sri Lankan openers cheaply.

Soon, Thirimanne was dismissed by debutant Washington Sundar. Yuzvendra Chahal broke the back of Sri Lanka's middle order by picking up three important wickets. While Bumrah ended the match with two wickets, Bhuvneshwar and Pandya picked up one wicket each.

#1 Captain leading from the front

Leading from the front, Rohit played a classy knock under pressure after being asked to bat first under some cloud cover. The stylish right-hander started off slowly and scored his first fifty from 65 deliveries.

After bringing up a sublime century off 115 balls, Rohit changed gears and blasted a slew of sixes and scored the next hundred off just 35 balls. He remained unbeaten on 208 runs, with 13 fours and 12 sixes to his name.
