India's love for cricket is a well-known fact throughout the world. Indian comics were very popular with the younger generation before the advent of cable TV and video games. Comic heroes like Chacha Choudhary, Shikari Shambu, Suppandi, to name a few, were the popular ones in the late 80s and the 90s.

Now, combining both the interests of Indian youth, Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma is set to launch India's first cricket-based comic superhero. The comic, named ‘Hyper Tygers’, has an environmental superhero team, whose intent is to create environmental awareness with the help of various corporate entities.

Rohit Sharma is collaborating with Graphic India, UK-based ISM Komix and Cornerstone Sport in order to launch ‘Hyper Tygers’. The comic will be in the digital format and will free to read on all devices from February 1, 2016, via Rohit Sharma's Facebook page and Graphic POP! mobile app.

“I’ve been a big fan of the work Graphic India has been doing in the country to create new Indian superheroes. The idea to collaborate with them to launch India’s first cricket based superhero comic made perfect sense.

“Hyper Tygers is an action-packed adventure around a futuristic game of cricket, unlike anything we have today. The story also serves as a larger allegory to protect our planet and its endangered wildlife, which is one of the great global challenges of our time,” Rohit said.

The comic is set in an advanced and developed India in the year 2077 where an Indian rural community comes up the ranks of the society as the face off against megacities on multiple fronts.

It addresses many of the present day problems in the world like how a rural area finds it hard to compete with an urban one or of how traditional approaches don't exactly match the ways future technology is driving the world forward.

The hero of the comic is named Green Tyger – a mysterious masked, rebellious cricketer. He, along with the Hyper Tygers, are looking for corporate, digital, commercial and marketing sponsors in order to help them achieve their aims of positive environmental awareness and social change. Green Tyger, supposedly, has superpowers that are tied to nature and earth.

Sharad Devarajan, the CEO and co-founder of Graphic India was delighted to have the support of one of India's leading cricket stars in Rohit Sharma.

“Rohit Sharma is the perfect partner to help us bring this futuristic cricket world to India and the hundreds of millions of cricket fans in the country.

“Cricket is a sport that is beloved by billions around the world and its time we finally combined the love of that game with the fun of superheroes. Hyper Tygers will excite global audiences with epic adventures, filled with heroic characters and powerful messages to save our planet and inspire change,” Devarajan said.
