The Kolkata Knight Riders players are sporting a black armband today in their game against the Rising Pune Supergiant to mourn the death of the 25 men of the Central Reserve Police Force or CRPF on Monday afternoon in Chhattisgarh's Sukma area.

KKR captain Gautam Gambhir took to social media site Twitter expressing his grief at the tragic turn of events.

The cold-blooded massacre was carried out by nearly 300 Maoists. During the time, the 99-member CRPF team was carrying out a sanitization exercise for an under-construction road in Sukma which is a part of south Bastar. This area has been facing the brunt of Maoist menace for several years now.

This is one of the deadliest attacks in Chattisgarh, a state which has been ravaged with Naxal attack and as many as 200 security personnel have died since April 2010.

The attack was condemned by one and all and leaders cutting across political parties have asked the government to hit these Naxals hard and eradicate this perennial menace of the Naxals which has been a scourge in the Odisha-Chattisgarh belt for decades,

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited the site along with state chief minister Raman Singh and issued a statement:

“The incident at Sukma was cold-blooded murder. I have discussed the entire matter with CRPF officials and although we do not disclose our strategy, we will meet on 8 May to revise our anti-Naxal strategy and seek to renew it,” he said.

This gesture by the Kolkata Knight Riders players is a brilliant move and deserves accolades for being vigilant towards the society.
