Kings XI Punjab beat Rising Pune Supergiants on Saturday, thanks to Glenn Maxwell. Do not forget the crucial role played by Manan Vohra and Murali Vijay. These two players took the match away from Pune right from the start.
This is Punjab’s first win in IPL 2016. It was a perfect way to bounce back after that heavy defeat against Delhi Daredevils.
Kings XI Punjab had a horrible IPL in 2015. They finished rock bottom last year having won only three games. The win against Delhi sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the season.
Kings XI Punjab will play their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders on 19 April 2016. They will be upbeat after that win against Rising Pune Supergiants. They play KKR in Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali. This is their home game and KXIP will be determined to come away with another victory. Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali has a capacity of over 26,000 and is a great venue to relish a good game of cricket.
Kings XI Punjab have loads of talent in their squad. They have a good blend of foreign contingent and local talent. David Miller from South Africa will captain the side for IPL 2016. Vohra and Vijay open the batting for KXIP. They have a huge responsibly upfront. They are essential in setting up a platform for the big hitters. Shaun Marsh is back in the side. Miller, Maxwell, and Marsh will be crucial for KXIP in the middle order. Punjab rely heavily on these three players. Miller will have to find his magic once again. Marsh will be vital; he can anchor the innings while Maxwell or Miller out powers the opposition. Marsh is also versatile; he too can launch a few out-of-the-park.
In the bowling department, they have Mitchell Johnson, Kyle Abbot, and Marcus Stoinis. Mitchell Johnson has not found his past form. Abbot did not have a great first game either. Stoinis was decent in the opener. They have many options here but none of them is concrete. Coming to the Indian bowlers, Mohit Sharma had a great game against RPS. KXIP will want the same to continue. Axar Patel had decent start to IPL 9. Sandeep Sharma picking up wickets right at the start will help Punjab’s cause.
With Maxwell showing a bit of form along with Vijay and Vohra, Kings XI Punjab will be eyeing a playoff spot. They certainly have the potential. We will have to wait and see if they can capitalize on their first win in IPL 2016.
