Sometimes, having a namesake can bring unnecessary attention from all corners, and it was something that cricketer Mohammad Kaif realised when his name was confused with that of a sharp shooter.

The rather hilarious misunderstanding happened when a random user on Twitter tagged the cricketer in a post which referred to him as the shooter who, incidentally, is also named Mohammad Kaif.

The 35-year old former cricketer, who is currently preparing for the upcoming domestic season where he will be leading Chhattisgarh, quickly took to Twitter to clear the misunderstanding.

Kaif tweeted,”I am not the shooter u r referring to.I m training fr the Cricket season ahead wid #Chattisgarh Verify to karlo yaar”

Kaif did not stop there. The cricketer also mentioned that his brother had been getting calls, questioning the cricketer’s involvement with criminal activities. Kaif took the whole situation in a sporting manner mentioning that he still prefers to shoot the stumps with a ball, and does not kill people with a gun.

The cricketer also asked his fans to send him good wishes for the upcoming domestic season. This will be the first time ever time that Chattisgarh will be competing in domestic cricket.

The misunderstanding started when a random user naively tagged the cricketer Kaif in a post, confusing him with the wanted sharp shooter, Mohammad Kaif. This tweet also led fans to show their disbelief and disappointment.

The tweet also showed one person holding a protest card saying ”Kaif ko insaaf do (Give justice to Mohammad Kaif)”. The tweet was later deleted.

The other Mohammad Kaif is an alleged criminal and is believed to be involved in the murder of journalist Rajdev Rajan. He recently caught everyone’s attention when he was seen standing with RJD MLA Siwan Mohammad Shahabuddin.

Mohammad Shahabuddin was released from prison after Patna High Court granted him bail in a murder case of a witness in the killing of two brothers in Siwan, Bihar in 2004.
