Travis Head ends his brilliant league stage campaign with a golden duck

Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Arshdeep Singh got the key wicket of Travis Head off the first ball of the second innings with a brilliant outswinger. The left-arm bowler struck in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, May 19.

SRH were tasked with chasing down a target of 215 to keep their hopes of featuring in Qualifier 1 alive. Battling the notion of being poor chasers in general, the Orange Army needed a strong start from their prolific opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma.

The left-handed Australian batter was up against Arshdeep Singh, with both players coming on as the impact sub for their respective sides. The left-arm pacer began with a trademark delivery moving slightly away from the left-handed batter. Travis Head, however, failed to bring his bat down in time, and the ball hit the top of the off stump to mark the perfect start for PBKS in their last match.

Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Despite losing Head, SRH have not dialed down their aggressive approach. Rahul Tripathi, playing only his third match of the season, got off to a flying start. As of writing, SRH have raced off to 50/1 after four overs.

Arshdeep Singh dismissed Travis Head in the reverse fixture as well

Arshdeep Singh and Travis Head have had interesting battles in the recent past, starting from Australia's away T20I series against India. In the reverse fixture in Mullanpur, the left-handed batter was dismissed for 21 runs off 15 deliveries after being caught by Shikhar Dhawan.

Travis Head's charge for the Orange Cap is also affected by this dismissal. He is third on the list currently, behind Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad. The Australian will have a chance to spike his numbers with his displays in the playoffs.

This marks the second duck of Head's IPL career. He was dismissed for a golden duck by compatriot Andrew Tye in the 2017 IPL encounter against the Gujarat Lions.
