Indian captain Rohit Sharma made an endearing gesture to his wife Ritika Sajdeh after India's clinical victory against Pakistan in the 2023 World Cup on Saturday, October 14.

Pakistan batted first in the contest after losing the toss and could only score 191 runs before getting all out. Babar Azam (50), Mohammad Rizwan (49) and Imam-ul-Haq (36) got starts but failed to build on them. Indian bowlers put on a collective effort, with five bowlers picking up two wickets each.

Rohit then resumed from where he left off against Afghanistan and went on a carnage against the Pakistan bowling attack. He smashed his way to 86 in just 63 balls to ensure India galloped to the target without dropping much sweat.

After Shreyas Iyer (53*) finished the match in style with a four in the 31st over, Rohit was elated, and then he turned towards the stands and made a lovely gesture (crossing his fingers on both hands) to his wife Ritika. Rohit previously mentioned that she usually has the habit of doing it while watching his matches.

Rohit Sharma: "The bowlers were the ones who set the game for us today"

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma gave the credit to the bowlers for setting up the win against Pakistan. Reflecting on their performance, he said:

"The bowlers were the ones who set the game for us today as well. Restricting them to around 190 was a great effort. I don't think it was a 190 pitch. At one stage we were looking at 280 or 270. They were 155/2. But the way they came back and showed grit tells a lot about the guys who were out there. That is something we pride ourselves in - whoever gets the ball does the job for the team.

Shedding light on his thought process while managing and rotating six quality bowlers, he added:

"We've got six individuals who can do the job for us with the ball. It cannot be everyone's day every day. The guy who is having a good day needs to make sure he gets the job done for the team. And obviously my job as the captain is important there as well - to read the conditions, assess who is guy who can trouble the batters. That's my role to figure out who is the right guy who can trouble the batters."

India will next square off against Bangladesh on Thursday (October 19) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
